Hello!
Carly and I wanted to thank everyone who has subscribed to Pride & Prejudice: OOPS ALL MARYS! While the end of chapter 1 will be released in one week, we thought we would share a little bit about ourselves and our project.
I (Tim) am a comedian, musician, and actor who has been obsessed with P&P for a long while. I was first introduced to P&P when I was very young, as my mom “forced” my brothers and I to watch the miniseries over and over again. While we (unconvincingly) resisted the pull of a great romance, we quickly embraced a story where so many characters were determined to be ridiculous. Soon it was common knowledge that the easiest way to get a laugh out of our mom was to quote, along with Seinfeld’s Kramer, Austen’s Collins. It wasn’t until college that I finally read the novel. Who can tell if it’s my favorite book, but it’s certainly the book I have reread with the most pleasure throughout my life.
Carly Monardo is a comedian, artist, illustrator, baker, and absolute dynamo. We became friendly through the NY comedy scene but didn’t start truly collaborating until 2019 when we joined a new Dungeons & Dragons campaign DM’d by our friend Branson Reese. That campaign eventually went on to become the award winning comedy fantasy podcast Rude Tales of Magic that we both star on and produce today with Branson, Ali Fisher, Christopher Hastings, and Joe Lepore.
In 2020, a year after we started the podcast, we were in lockdown recording audio remotely and desperately looking for anything that could activate joy. Carly and I had joked about Pride & Prejudice before, and even played a few rounds of the fantastic card game Marrying Mr. Darcy, so we decided to record some easy Patreon content: just two pals talking about a book they like. One conversation turned into two, spurring independent rereads, rewatches, and texts about the rereads & rewatches. Then Carly herself GM’d and produced an episode of our podcast crew playing Good Society- A Jane Austen Roleplaying Game for our Patreon (aptly titled Beans and Revelry).
During another rewatch (WE WERE IN LOCKDOWN) we texted the following:
A google doc began. Four years later, after numerous starts and stops and sprints and trips, we are proud to share with you the stupidest idea either of us have ever spent time on.
Affectionately,
The Authors
Loved the patreon rude talks of chatting y’all did and I re-listen to beans and revelry annually so it was such a delight when this was announced.
You can tell the intro was written by people who really love Pride and Prejudice. I was scream laughing at the (YOU KNOW THIS) comments.
